La Fe Cristiana: Pilar Indispensable para la Reconstrucción de Occidente

ARC conference leaders agree: the salvation of the West lies in a return to its Christian roots, faith, and profound spiritual transformation.

Christian Faith: Indispensable Pillar for the Reconstruction of the West

LONDON — At the heart of the vibrant British capital, the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) Conference became a beacon of reflection and hope for the future of Western civilization. If day one focused on a critical analysis of its current deconstruction, day two soared with an even more pressing question: what will it take to rebuild it? The answer, resonating with prophetic clarity among the speakers, was unanimous: the restoration of the West is inseparable from the recovery of its Christian foundations.

The task, according to ARC, demands a “mindset shift” encompassing all spheres of life, from technology and the economy to family, education, and art. But beyond political or economic strategies, a golden thread of spiritual truth united the diverse perspectives: without a return to its roots of faith, Western civilization cannot be renewed.

The Spiritual Void at the Heart of the Crisis

Journalist and author Michael Shellenberger incisively addressed the core of the problem with spiritual acumen. He highlighted how the remarkable progress of science and industry has weakened belief in a transcendent God and a divine world order. This erosion of faith has left people without a compass to understand inequality and suffering, leading them instead to blame civilization itself and structures of power. The result is an “anti-civilization discourse” ultimately driven by “unmet spiritual and psychological needs” stemming from the decline of Christian faith and the traditional values that once underpinned the West. Shellenberger lamented that efforts to bolster public faith have “mostly failed,” allowing “anti-civilization activists to successfully sell utopian dream worlds” that distort reality and attribute to civilization the harms their own policies create.

His call is to unmask anti-civilization policies, linking them to a de-civilizing project, and to boldly reaffirm that Western civilization, rooted in Christian principles, remains the fairest and most humane form of social organization ever created. This involves rejecting language that distorts truth, calling things by their biblical and moral names, such as child mutilation instead of “gender-affirming care” or subsidizing addiction instead of “harm reduction.”

The Erosion of Sacred Pillars

Ross Douthat, a Catholic columnist for The New York Times, warned of an impending “mass extinction” of shared customs and institutions—such as marriage, career, and family—unless a conscious effort is made to preserve them. He described a “crisis of faith” not only in God, but in a sense of individual and collective purpose, and in the basic goodness of Western civilization. In this void, people turn to “inferior digital substitutions,” contributing to loneliness and despair. Douthat prophesied that only societies with true faith, one that believes in a “cosmic destiny” and that human life “is worth living,” will survive the coming changes.

Jewish commentator Melanie Phillips underscored the importance of education. She argued that the “greatness” of the West does not solely come from Ancient Greece, but fundamentally from “the Hebrew Bible mediated by Christianity.” It is this moral and spiritual scaffolding that enabled the rise of Western science and modernity. “We have been taking a wrecking ball over many decades to the scaffolding of the West and we somehow expect the West to continue. It won’t,” she warned, urging to reconstruct the foundations already given by God.

A Call to Truth and Heart Transformation

Former politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali exhorted challenging today’s “feel-good” culture and the “tyranny of feelings,” restoring a sense of God as “transcendent” and “Creator.” Nigel Farage, whose vision for Britain includes protecting its Christian heritage, lamented the loss of strong communities where the church was a vital center, advocating for restoring family and community life as a better way of living. Rod Dreher, author of The Benedict Option, suggested recovering the “sacred story” of how the West came to be, warning how digital technology and AI accelerate the loss of human connection, even replacing real relationships with simulations, which he sees as “the voice of the devil” tempting us to prefer the false and comfortable over God's reality.

Theologian and philosopher Johannes Hartl offered a note of hope: a growing openness among young people frustrated with “false promises.” However, he cautioned that “superficial religion” is not enough. “We do need a conversion of our own hearts. Only this will make a difference,” he stated, emphasizing the seriousness of prayer and courage to speak up. “There is a generation thirsty to hear the truth, and thirsty for true spiritual awakening. The problem is most churches are no longer houses of prayer. There's only one moment where Jesus actually got angry: He said, my house shall be a house not just of politics and ethics and morals or education, but of prayer. Encounter the living God. This is key.”

Dreher agreed that young people are “looking for meaning, for community, for purpose, for transcendence, and for God,” and that Christians must help them find these answers. “If we don't… we are going to lose them to the false and diabolical myths of racism, antisemitism, and the far right or far left—and it's coming. It happened in Weimar and it's going to happen to us if we don't wake up. We still have time, but we can't just sit back and observe. We have to act.”

In this crucial moment, the message is clear: the reconstruction of Western civilization is not merely a political, economic, or social challenge. It is, at its deepest essence, a spiritual battle demanding repentance, a renewal of faith in God, a return to biblical principles, and a bold proclamation of the Gospel. The hope for the West lies not in new ideologies, but in the eternal truth of Christ, the unshakeable foundation of all just and prosperous society.
